Abstract: This article explored the significance of Grace O'Malley an Irish Queen at the time of the Tudors. This complex issue was made appropriate for KS1 pupils through a series of enquiry questions and activities exploring the notion of pirates and how far Grace's activities related to piracy, together with exploring some of the issues which she faced.
