Rose, R., Shevlin, M., Winter, E. and O'Raw, P. (2011) Investigating special educational provision in Irish mainstream schools: the perspectives of key stage holders. Paper presented to: Irish Association of Teachers in Special Education (IATSE) 23rd Annual International Conference: Teaching & Learning - Forging Ahead, Drumcondra, Dublin, 09-11 June 2011.
Project IRIS (Inclusive Research in Irish Schools) a four year longitudinal study is investigating special needs provision across the Republic of Ireland. Focus groups conducted with key service providers (School Principals, Educational Psychologists, Teacher Educators, Disability Groups) sought data related to policy, provision, expectations and outcomes for pupils with a range of special educational needs. Disparate views expressed by individuals and groups are discussed within the context of the Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs Act. It is suggested that inconsistencies can be in part attributed to a failure to fully implement and support this legislation
