Abstract:
In this book chapter I am trying to describe choreo/musical relationships in using the idea/concept of the figural as a way to relate the performative impact of music onto choreographic and visual images and vice versa. The book chapter reviews existing research in the field and points out that most of the authors fail to negotiate between the structural analysis they are undertaking and the performative impact of music in either film or dance which they are advocating as well. Instead most authors oscillate between the two approaches. The chapter has been published in book format as proceedings of a symposium held in 2007 in Hanover which was a collaboration between the University of Bayreuth, University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover and the State Opera in Hanover
