  Abstract:
              Rationale
MOOC ‘s have become a growing phenomenon and termed an “educational buzzword” by Daniel (2012). Sharing digital content is not new amongst academics and the HE sector and there is a continuing upwards trend of the use and publication of open educational resources, OERs (Corbyn 2012) . A MOOC is discussed as collaboration between educational experts including academics in order to share learning experiences across boundaries. For me as an academic, herein lies the rub, as a passionate advocate of education for all and a true believer in the agenda of widening participation the concept of a MOOC appears the ideal, free, open access sharing platform for anyone who wishes to learn. However as a self confessed technophobe I feel alienated by technical language and a complete lack of understanding of online terminology and behaviour.
Content
This workshop seeks to outline, briefly, the trend in MOOC offerings in the HE sector. The session will include a brief overview of a personal experience of being involved in the design of a MOOC for Northampton Business School particularly in relation to feelings of fear and alienation related to technology and social media.
