Opening up public services: marketisation of social services

Davies, J. (2014) Opening up public services: marketisation of social services. Invited Presentation presented to: Innovative Approaches in Providing Services of General Interest at National, Regional or Local Level in Europe, EESC, Brussels, 04 November 2014. (Unpublished)

Item Type: Conference or Workshop Item (Invited Presentation)
Abstract: This invited presentation discusses, in a UK and EU context, the potenial implications of the UK Governments Open Public Services policy and the marketisation of public (social) services. It questions the efficacy of the policy approach for a consumerised social services market that is predicated on the benchmark standard of the 'circumspect and well informed consumer': rather than that of the 'vulnerable consumer'.
