A Q-study with loving kindness practitioners

Sheffield, K. (2014) A Q-study with loving kindness practitioners. Paper presented to: British Psychological Society (BPS) Transpersonal Psychology Section 18th Annual Conference, Northampton, UK, 10-12 October 2014. (Unpublished)

Item Type: Conference or Workshop Item (Paper)
Abstract: Findings from a Q-study exploring practitioner views and understanding of Loving Kindness Meditation (LKM) were presented. Q-methodology asks participants to ‘sort’ a set of statements into a forced normal distribution ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. Analysis allows the researcher to explore whether there are any statements which are consistently featured as being rated in a similar way across a sample; this can be in terms of a statement being consistently disagreed with, or agreed with. This results in ‘groups’ of participants who share a similar opinion on a topic; in this case LKM. This study contributes to a wider PhD project and was discussed in relation to the previous research that has been conducted as part of this. The presentation detailed the overall aims of the research conducted to date; a set of interviews as well as the Q-study, how these relate to one another, what a Q-study comprises, and the analysis and discussion from the Q-study.
