FEBRUARY
Pruning the trees in winter
is a promise of more we make
by leaving less. It’s learning
to see what must go
for the sake of letting in light.
On a deep cold night last week
a fox took the goose away.
As if to show there has to be
a loss before a gain –
as if, in his own way,
he was letting in the light.
