Evans, M. and Parker, D. (2007) The Abstract Unconscious. Gallery 103, North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, Wrexham, 29 October - 15 November 2007.
Artist's statement: "My painting can best be described as having a loosely and largely unconsciously based imaginative relationship with aspects of landscape – in particular, rock surfaces and their hallucinatory capacity to evoke dream states and imaginative other worlds. I am fascinated by how liminal states of attention and awareness - states on the border between consciousness and unconsciousness - can open up a whole new visual territory, one that effectively re-instates the primacy of imagination. In the process, I am attempting to form a bridge between consciousness and unconsciousness, meticulously structuring intuitive responses to random marks, lines and colours. Fundamental to this work is a commitment to the revealing power of imagination and a belief that, through imaginative processes, the individual transcends the illusion of appearances and accesses the trans-personal and archetypal." All works are 65.5 x 50.5 cm, oil on canvas.
