Abstract:
The issues around equality have once again been in the headlines last week with the PM criticising Universities for their racial bias and also announcing a review into race issues in the Criminal Justice System, headed by David Lammy MP (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35452975). I am pretty sceptical about this as I think that the issues are quite clear, but there is not the evidence that there is the political will to challenge or change them. Institutional racism is now well documented and so I am not sure that further investigation is what is needed. However, the solutions are not easy and not inexpensive, so forgive me for not being overly optimistic that anything substantive will come of the PM’s interventions.
Following on from this, I was asked to respond to a number of questions regarding equality in the workplace by a journalist and I thought I would share my replies.
