Measure King : For PLAINE - Lagon Revue 6

Lagon Revue invited me to make a new comic for PLAINE (Lagon 6) - a 412 page, offset printed, hard backed anthology published in an edition of 1600 copies in Paris, France with the support of the Centre National du Graphisme and the Centre National du Livre. Lagon Revue is a French based prospective comic book magazine exploring new forms of graphic narration. It is a French and English publication printed with risograph, offset, and silkscreen and takes a new name with each issue. 'Following the fireballs of the volcano, the bottomless pit, the slimy swamp, the lively torrent, here comes the wind on the PLAIN.' 'Rhythmized by several long stories, the summary of Plaine alternates with shorter propositions, fulgurances and spaces that could be qualified as ambient. We have tried to organise this summary as one would compose a playlist' For my contribution, a 16 page monochrome sequence titled, 'Measure King', I explored, what was for me, new approaches to research and generating imagery, juxtaposition and page layouts to create a non-linear narrative sequence that used recurring characters primarily as a way bring together ideas and situations, opening up spaces for speculation and feeling. It launched on Dec 1 2022 at Villa Belleville in Paris and has been distributed in bookstores in France, Europe, USA, Japan, China, Taiwan and Mexico. It is exhibiting at various international publishing fairs including Oslo Comics Expo Norway in June 2023.
