Abstract:	Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) treatment involves the exposure to extremely cold temperatures (<-100°C) for a few minutes. The effectiveness of WBC in enhancing sports recovery and accelerating repair from exercise-inducing muscle damage (EIMD) remains to be clarified. Muscle strength and muscle soreness, two common markers of EIMD, were examined in a pilot study that assessed the reliability of muscle torque measures, as well as the suitability of downhill running procedures in two different sites. This study has revealed thus far that participants do not become familiarised to muscle torque assessments and that the downhill running protocols are insufficient to cause muscle damage. Possible implications for further studies are increasing the duration of downhill runs, as well as including resistance exercises. It is anticipated that the outcome of such studies inform optimum practices for WBC treatment, as well as clarifying its potential as a recovery method to facilitate sports performance.
