Supporting mindfulness beyond the short-term intervention

Gordon-Finlayson, A. and Sheffield, K. (2014) Supporting mindfulness beyond the short-term intervention. Poster presented to: Midlands Health Psychology Network 10th Annual Conference: Ten Years of MHPN: Looking Back and Moving Forward, The University of Northampton, 2014-02-20.

Item Type: Conference or Workshop Item (Poster)
Abstract: Poster outlining some concerns with current application of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) in health and mental health settings. These MBIs rely heavily upon a short-term (6-10 weeks) intervention in the face of many recommendations, both from academia and the traditional Buddhist contexts from which these secular MBIs were developed. A model for setting up a long-term support for mindfulness practice is presented, and an invitation is extended to form partnerships with local & regional health and third-sector bodies to realise this.
