Abstract:
"Keep Looking" and "Line No 22" are video works developed through an intensive period of drawing development, exhibited at the National Eisteddfod of Wales Visual Arts Exhibition August 2013. The nature of the work involved the exploration of expanded approaches to drawing and theory through new media approaches realising new insights.
Each of the video pieces explores the expanded discourse of drawing through the temporality of video. Narrative documentary takes place in each, exploring the concept of “the line” through metaphor. Keep Looking explores the movement of a slack line walker attempting to cross a quarry in Snowdonia. Line 22 observes 20,000 marathon runners crossing a line, developed from live recordings of a solitary road line near the beginning of the London Marathon.
Both videos explore drawing through metaphorical contexts and new progressive dialogues. On all accounts the social arenas provoked new investigative methodologies into drawing and delineation.
The works were selected through peer review for the National Eisteddfod Visual Arts Exhibition, considered to be the pinnacle of the visual arts calendar in Wales. Y Lle Celf is the Eisteddfod’s visual arts gallery and it’s one of the most popular buildings on the Maes, attracting up to 40,000 visitors.
