Abstract:
Two radon-in-schools programmes are compared in markedly different regions in an attempt to determine issues of policy and practice that require further research. The Northamptonshire programme was part of a mature UK programme, driven by enforced legislation. The programme in Poland (Katowice Province) was resource constrained and operated without strictly enforced legislation. The comparison suggests that only where legislation is enforced does radon monitoring and remediation, to preserve human health, occur. Knowledge, and technology transfer from a mature radon programme is a possible catalyst for future developments, something that can be provided by a partnership of suitable Universities.
