Abstract:
Oral history can simultaneously illuminate documentary history whilst augmenting historical narratives. Through analysing aspects of consumer behaviour, this paper will give its readers a greater understanding of how a racially discriminated group, in this case Caribbean people in the English county of Northamptonshire, used consumerism to both thwart projection of inferiority onto them, as well as using their consumer behaviour to affirm and reaffirm positive Caribbean identities within the context of being in a location where they were very few in number. Furthermore, this paper will give examples of how different generations manifested their consumer behaviour differently because of their era based experiences
