Abstract: In the UK, the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) has designated radon affected areas where over 1% of homes are above the action level of 200 Bq m-3. In Northamptonshire, where 6.3% of houses are over the action level, radon remediation programmes have been conducted in health premises, schools and houses, and the dose savings and costs of each have been studied. In health premises, including two major hospitals and 26 health centres, 135 staff worked in the 21 locations with levels over the workplace action level of 400 Bq m-3. After remediation, the collective dose saved annually was estimated to be 0.533 man-sievert. The total cost was £98,000, giving a total cost per man-sievert saved annually of £184,000...
