Abstract:
This book undertakes a broad and in-depth investigation of the aesthetic features of Igbo masking performances in South-Eastern Nigeria. It draws upon a broad selection of representative masking styles and explores different performance contexts and displays from all regions of Igbo society, interrogating design concepts and several other performative features of the form that continue to provide a steady stream of information, from conceptual approaches and contextual developments to production and reception strategies. The book interrogates the concept of participation in African performances from different viewpoints
