Abstract:
Social enterprise is increasingly becoming a feature of reform in the health and social care sector. In England, the Social Enterprise Investment Fund (SEIF) was established by the Department of Health to support new and established social enterprises in an increasingly plural and diverse market. The purpose of the paper is to present a selection of in-depth case study findings on social enterprises delivering health and social care services that have received SEIF investment. The paper covers empirical material about the experience of organisational delivery, an examination of the outcomes being achieved and an analysis of the enablers and barriers faced by the organisations. The paper provides an interesting contribution by presenting important data about the progress and experience of social enterprise in health and social care that has implications for public service delivery more widely
