MSc Lift Engineering at The University of Northampton: systems engineering approach bridging the gap between the theory and industrial practice

Kaczmarczyk, S. and Smith, R. (2017) MSc Lift Engineering at The University of Northampton: systems engineering approach bridging the gap between the theory and industrial practice. Workshop presented to: 7th Symposium on Lift and Escalator Technologies, Highgate House, Creaton, Northampton, 20-21 September 2017. (Unpublished)

Item Type: Conference or Workshop Item (Workshop)
Abstract: The aim of the workshop is to provide provide a comprehensive introduction to the MSc Lift Engineering programme offered at the University of Northampton (UoN). The programme evolved from the distance learning provision which was originally developed following the introduction of the first edition of the European standard EN 81-1:1977. Some parts of the programme have been modified appropriately to reflect ASME/ANSI A17.1. The MSc programme is designed as a 3–5 year distance based study. It is intended that delegates will gain understanding of this postgraduate provision and how the MSc addresses the issues of lift technology at a deeper level, reflecting on the issues underpinning national and international codes and standards.
