Abstract:

Ageing-in-place: what is best for older people is to remain in the residential environment (e.g. home and neighborhood). Providing older adults can retain a sense of independence. Understandings of home are situated in the context of the wider community – availability of informal and formal supports, transportation options, neighbourhood design. The community is a place where older adults can remain active, engaged, socially connected, and independent. Ability to remain in the home depends on economic, social and environmental resources – asset-based approach.
