Abstract:
Today’s media graduates need a range of skills for a multiplatform, post-digital XXX media environment. Morphing traditional production and theory courses module into units which examine ‘screens’ rather than film or TV acknowledges overtly what many media courses are doing, yet it also has knock-on effects for teaching and learning. This paper aims to review and evaluate changes to curriculum to accommodate and engage students on both theory and practice courses, and to make modules and courses more industry-facing in order to focus on how screen studies draws on and incorporates a range of academic disciplines, including literary textual analysis, cultural studies, sociology, film studies and television studies.
