Connected to Music was a pilot project for a new model of music education for young people that linked learning in the classroom (particularly the Wider Opportunities programme and those in transition years) to a wide range of performance opportunities outside of the classroom. Running from October 2009 to July 2010, Connected to Music was led by Orchestras Live in partnership with Northamptonshire County Council, Royal & Derngate, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) and sinfonia ViVA. It received funding from the Department of Children Schools and Families (DCSF) and subsequent Department for Education (DfE). The report by Dr Ross Prior highlights the crucial role partnerships play in delivering high quality and effective music education for young people, how professional orchestras, venues and educators can work together to produce outstanding outcomes in music education and how groups and organisations can re-think how they operate in order to improve practice and build innovative programmes
