Abstract:	In the Anglo-Norman twelfth century poem "The Voyage of St Brendan", the most exciting episode occurs towards the end of the narrative where Brendan encounters Judas Iscariot in apparently violent torture from the elements which clinging to a rock in the middle of the ocean. Judas tells Brendan that this is a comparative respite for him as he receives a release from hell each Sunday. Judas then explains that there are two hells and he is the only one who suffers in both. He describes his torture in minute detail.
